Harare – The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) said they will allow relatives and friends to visit prisoners giving them more time talk and restoring their relationships.
Dubbed “Rebuilding Bonds, Restoring Hope”, the family visits will be held until May 4.
”Today marks a powerful beginning of Family Week 2025 across all our correctional facilities — a sacred time where walls do not separate love, and society reaches across to uplift, forgive, and reconnect,” the ZPCS said.
”From Mutimurefu to Chikurubi, families, friends, churches, and community stakeholders walked through our gates, bringing with them songs, smiles, and the priceless gift of presence.
Tears of joy, heartfelt embraces, and laughter filled the air as inmates reunited with their loved ones — some for the first time in years.”
Unlike other visits where time is limited between prisoners and their visitors, the family week allows prisoners to have the whole day in the company of their relatives and they can have as many visitors in one day.
The ZPCS said the family visits will include “vibrant entertainment programs, featuring music, drama, and inspiring testimonies.”
”This initiative is more than a visit — it is a bridge, reconnecting offenders with the communities they will one day return to. It is a statement that every person has worth, and that forgiveness and hope are powerful forces for change.”
The second family week this year will be held from December 8 to December 14.
