Chivhu, Zimbabwe-Farmers who delivered grain to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) months ago say they are still waiting for payment — a delay now threatening their ability to prepare for the next farming season.
GMB continues to cite system issues, but internal sources reveal the real problem is that Treasury has yet to release the funds.
“We delivered on time, followed every process. There’s no money, no clear update — just silence,” said one farmer.
Despite years of similar setbacks, farmers continue to deliver their grain every season, fulfilling their role in safeguarding national food security — even when the system fails them.
With no official timeline or explanation, many say they are being pushed backwards in their planning, unable to afford seed, fertiliser or fuel. Yet, year after year, they return to the fields.
