Harare – Marry Mubaiwa, the ex-wife of Zimbabwe vice president Constantino Chiwenga, has lost an upmarket house and two Range Rovers in Pretoria because South African courts ruled they were proceed of crime.
According to Zimbabwe’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the Gauteng High court granted that the house and the two cars be forfeited to the South African state.
”Honourable Justice JJ Strijdom, declared the following properties forfeited to the South African State in terms of Section 48 of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA), Act 121 of 1998: Erf 191 Sterrewag, Extension 3, a luxury immovable property in Pretoria,” the NPA said in a statement.
”Two Land Rover Range Rovers, bearing registration numbers HJ40JNGP and HX615GGP, respectively. These assets, previously placed under a preservation order on 09 February 2022, were linked to the alleged proceeds of unlawful activities, including money laundering and illicit financial flows.”
Mubaiwa is facing attempted murder charges in which she is accused to trying to kill Chiwenga when he was in hospital in South Africa.
Chiwenga, a former Zimbabwe army chief was taken ill to a South African hospital after suspected poisoning.
He survived after he was taken to China where he spent several months admitted in hospital.
When Chiwenga came back to Zimbabwe he divorced his wife and accused her of trying to kill him in South Africa.
Mubaiwa has denied the charges. She has been facing ill-health since his arrest in Zimbabwe and has had her leg and hand amputated.
Mubaiwa is still facing trial at the Harare magistrates court and her divorce with Chiwenga is still before the courts.
Marry Mubaiwa has been denied by the courts access to her children that she had with Chiwenga.
Chiwenga has since married his former army junior, Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga.
