Harare – Prominent artist, Chikonzero Chazunguza caused a stir at journalist James Jemwa’s funeral by confiscating and hiding the late journalist’s video camera claiming it was his.
The shameful act resulted in scores of mourners descending on Chazunguza’s home demanding the camera back from the Dzimbanhete Arts and Culture Trust artist.
Chikonzero who is popularly known as “Chiko” refused to hand over the camera which is valued at US$5000 angering mourners.
Relatives and friends were shocked by Chazunguza’s actions which they said it was a clear case of theft and claiming the video camera before the family has distributed the late journalist’s estate.
Particularly journalists were angered that Chazunguza was claiming ownership when the camera in question was donated to Jemwa by the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA).
Sources said Chazunguza took the camera claiming that Jemwa broke a video camera he had borrowed from the artist years ago.
