Tehran – Zimbabwe has evacuated it’s embassy staff in Tehran to neighbouring Armenia as the United States and Israel continue their military assaults on Iran, a senior government official has said.
”Following a review of the security situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran which has been jointly aggressed by the US and Israel, Zimbabwe Embassy staff in Teheran has been evacuated to neighbouring State of Armenia for safety,” George Charamba, the deputy chief secretary to cabinet wrote on X platform.
”Non-essential members of staffers are being flown home. Similarly, Zimbabwe is in touch with all its Missions in the Middle East to assess their security requirements and those of Zimbabweans in the Region.”
The conflict which is on day three in the Middle East has resulted in flights being cancelled across the region.
Zimbabwe has an embassy in Tehran and has maintained string ties with Iran over the years.
Air strikes by the US and Iran killed Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior Tehran military officers over the weekend.
