Harare – Zimbabwe nurses at main hospitals have embarked on a strike over poor salaries.
The nurses at Parirenyatwa and Sally Mugabe referral hospitals downed their tools last week as they called on the government of President Emmerson Mnangagwa to review their salaries.
On Monday dozens of nurses at Parirenyatwa staged a sit-in holding placards decrying the sad realities of their situation.
”Have mercy on us,” one placard reads while another placard said:” We cannot afford bus fare.”
”Should we engage in prostitution to raise money for bus fare,” another placard read.
Strikes by Zimbabwe medical personnel are on and off in the southern African country which is facing an economic crisis.
Doctors and nurses have been striking in the past years but their salaries are still not adequate.
The government is yet to respond to the latest strike by nurses.
