Harare – Three vehicles were set alight at business premises of Kuda Tagwirei, Wicknel Chivhayo and John Mangudya in the early hours of Friday morning in unexplained arson.
Controversial businessman, Chivhayo and ZANU PF secretary for Youth, Machakaire were recently named as criminals surrounding President Emmerson Mnangagwa by Blessed Geza, the war veteran pushing for mass protests on March 31.
Mangudya, a former central bank governor is now the Mutapa Investments chief executive.
Tagwirei, a multi-millionaire was the first to be named by Geza as a criminal who is involved in dodgy deals stealing from the state.
Chivhayo has been dishing vehicles and cash to many people like confetti at a wedding.
The source of Chivhayo’s wealth is not known.
Chivhayo has gone into meetings with Mnangagwa anytime he feels like. He has boasted on social media that he is holding Mnangagwa and the government to his whims.
The arson on the business premises of the three controversial individuals has been linked to the mass protests set for Monday, March 31, various people said on social media.
Police confirmed the arson and said they are carrying out investigations.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has received reports of petrol instigated burning of moving vehicles at business premises in Avondale, Highlands, Newlands and Goromonzi on 28th March 2025 between 12 midnight and 4 am,” the police said in a statement.
“This was done by suspects who were driving the vehicles. They quickly jumped into accompanying vehicles and ran away. Police are conducting investigations into the incidences.”
Fights are escalating between Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga supporters within the ruling ZANU PF party.
Mnangagwa supporters want the ruler to extend his rule to 2030 from 2028 while Chiwenga wants Mnangagwa to resign and pave way for the elevation of the former army General to become President of Zimbabwe.
