Harare – Zimbabwe High Court judge, Pisirayi Kwenda sentenced businessmen Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu 12 years and 15 years respectively for defrauding government of US$7 million in a goat scheme.
Chimombe and Mpofu were convicted and sentenced to jail for defrauding US$7 meant for a goat breeding project named as the ‘presidential goat scheme’.
Their lawyers have said they will appeal against the sentence.
The duo who were erstwhile friends of controversial businessman Wicknell Chivhayo.
They were arrested after a fallout with Chivhayo who is a close associate of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Chimombe and Mpofu were members of the ruling ZANU PF party.
They were allegedly involved in the controversial ballot paper tender by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) in which Chivhayo got at least US$100 million.
