Nairobi, Kenya – A video circulating on social media of a Chinese worker beating his black Kenyan colleague is one of the many incidents recorded this year showing the violent behaviour of Chinese nationals on the African continent.
From Kenya to Zimbabwe, Chinese employers and investors have been beating black African workers.
Some black Africans have been maimed, injured and killed by the Chinese.
The worrying incidents have angered blacks on the continent.
”We have noticed a video circulating online showing a Chinese worker at a private company assaulting his Kenyan colleague. We are extremely disappointed to see such an incident occur. As we are informed, the company’s management has immediately terminated the Chinese worker’s contract and will consider further disciplinary action,” Beijing’s embassy in Kenya said in a statement.
”The Embassy consistently requires Chinese citizens in Kenya to strictly abide by local laws, regulations, and cultural customs, and the vast majority of them do so. We believe this isolated incident should not affect investment cooperation between Chinese and Kenyan companies, but it is a reminder to all Chinese citizens in Kenya to uphold the principle of mutual respect with Kenyan friends and behave in accordance to the laws, regulations, and cultural customs of Kenya.”
However, this is not an isolated incident on the continent.
Recently the Chinese embassy in Harare warned it’s citizens in Zimbabwe that they should not act above the law after various incidents of assaults on blacks involving Chinese employers or supervisors.
”Compliance with Zimbabwean laws and regulations is the non-negotiable foundation of all operations. All disputes must be resolved through proper legal channels. Proactively seek advice and assistance from qualified legal counsel,” the Chinese embassy in Harare said.
The Chinese in Africa have been involved in illegal acts but are spared by some Africa governments who fear Beijing will withdraw investments on the continent.
In some cases, videos on social media show black workers fighting back when assaulted by the Chinese.
China has been investing billions of US dollars in various projects from electricity to rail projects.
