Harare – The sermon by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga in Murewa in which he narrated a biblical story of King Hezekiah has drawn support from Zimbabweans who are against the extension of President Emmerson Mnangagwa term.
Constitutional Amendment bill number 3 seeks to extend Mnangagwa’s term from 2028 to 2030.
Critics of the bill have said that the issue of the amendment must have been taken to a referendum.
The Chiwenga faction in ZANU PF and other ordinary people want the former army General to take over from Mnangagwa in 2028 when the veteran’s ruler’s current term ends.
Chiwenga addressed Roman Catholic congregants at St Paul’s Musami mission in which he preached about Hekeziah and how wanted to continue ruling against God’s will.
People interpreted Hezekiah to be Mnangagwa who is pushing to extend his rule.
Social media was awash with Chiwenga’s sermon with people interpreting his message in Murewa.
Chiwenga and Mnangagwa are not getting along due to the incumbent’s plan to extend his rule beyond the 2028.
Tensions have been rising between Chiwenga and Mnangagwa factional camps in the ZANU PF and within government in the past weeks since the constitutional amendments processes started.
