Harare – Geo Pomona, the controversial refuse collection company is failing to collect garbage in the city despite getting paid US$90 000 a day, residents have complained.
Geo Pomona is owned by controversial businessman Delish Nguwaya and the sons of Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The company got a controversial deal with the Harare City Council which did not go to tender.
Critics have accused the city council of corruptly giving the deal to Nguwaya and the Mnangagwa family.
Residents in high density surburbs have said Geo Pomona is not adhering to their days they said they will collect refuse.
Geo Pomona has also failed to clear garbage piling at bus terminus such as Copa Cabana, Market Square and Fourth Street.
”Geo Pomona is failing to collect refuse on time. Garbage is piling in streets and we fear disease outbreak,” one resident told Timely News.
Another resident said complained that the city is wasting money on a company that is not doing what it is expected to do.
”Why is the city council paying Geo Pomona if they cannot collect and clear rubbish on ranks such as Copa Cabana? The city council must terminate the Geo Pomona deal,” another Harare resident told Timely News.
Nguwaya has been gallivanting across Africa, Europe and China speaking glowingly about Geo Pomona when in reality the company is failing to collect garbage and is not a model that they say it is.
Despite failing to service Harare city, Geo Pomona has been angling to sign contracts with other Zimbabwe cities and towns using political muscle and the company’s links with the First Family.
