Harare – Discovery Ambulance Services (DAS) and Hoops 4 Hope Zimbabwe are set to host the Communities Basketball Festival (CB-Fest) on July 26 at Dzivarasekwa Basketball Court, spotlighting emergency preparedness and public health awareness.
The event is free and open to the public.
Running under the theme “Every Life Matters. Every Second Counts,” CB-Fest will include hands-on first aid training delivered by DAS professionals.
Participants will learn essential lifesaving techniques including CPR, wound care, fracture management, and how to respond to drug overdoses.
Health booths and an ambulance open tour will also be part of the program to enhance community understanding of emergency services.
Sports will take center stage with a basketball tournament, a three-point shooting challenge, and a slam dunk contes.
These activities are designed to energize youth and promote healthy drug-free living.
“We are focusing on prevention by combining sports and health education,” said DAS CEO David Munowenyu.
Marketing Manager for Hoops 4 Hope Zimbabwe Faith Sekete emphasized the long-term impact of such initiatives.
“Our basketball programs engage hundreds of young people each week, equipping them with life skills to resist drug abuse and make positive choices,” she said.
CB-Fest seeks to foster resilience and hope in communities like Dzivarasekwa where youth face increasing risks related to substance abuse.
