Barcelona, Spain – FC Barcelona has given promising forward Lamine Yamal the coveted jersey number 10 after the soccer star signed a six year contract with the Spanish giants that will keep him at Spotify Camp Nou until June 2031.
Yamal, who recently turned 18 signed his contract with FC Barcelona club president Joan Laporta on Wednesday.
”It’s been a dream of mine since I was little, and I am very happy,” Yamal said after signing the new contract and receiving the number 10 jersey.
”My family and I are very happy.”
Yamal said he is looking forward to play in the new season at Spotify Camp Nou in-front of the club’s fans.
The forward came to La Masia at the age of just seven.
Lamal has proved to be a key component of the FC Barcelona squad that lifted the domestic treble this season: Spanish Super Cup, Copa del Rey and La Liga, the teenager is already considered one of the best players in the world.
Lamine has already made 106 appearances for the first team and has racked up an impressive array of records in process becoming the youngest ever goal scorer in La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Super Cup as well as being the youngest player ever to make 100 appearance for the blaugranes.
He has scored at least 25 goals for his club since his debut match in 2023 when he was 15.
Excited FC Barcelona fans took to social media to embrace Yamal’s shirt number 10 likening his rise to FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi time at the club.
”This is a symbol of trust and the future. Lamine Yamal is ready to continue Messi’s legacy,” one fan said.
Yamal has previously worn jersey number 41, 27 and 19 at the club.
