Harare – Legendary Zimbabwe musician and Sungura music star, Nicholas Zakaria has died, his family said Thursday.
Zakaria who was a lead guitarist and vocalist of the Khiama Boys died after months of ill health.
”It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nicholas Zakaria😭💔, the talented musician and beloved member of our community,” read a notice on Zakaria’s Facebook page.
Nicholas left an indelible mark on the music world with his inspiring voice and dedication to his craft. His legacy will live on through his music, and he will be deeply missed by fans and loved ones.
Details regarding a memorial service will be shared in due course.

Zakaria who was also known as the ‘Senior Lecturer’ produced many albums and hits in his decades long music career.
His popular songs include Mabvi Nemakogora, Murombo Munhu, Nzira Yakanaka, Kuva Nemari, Tsamba, Makomborero, Pan’ono Pan’ono, Zomvelamvela, Mabhauwa among many other hits.
The Senior Lecturer sang in mostly in Shona and Chewa languages. Sme of his songs were gospel with strong christian messages.
As the leader of Khiama Boys he produced popular musicians such as Alick Macheso and System Tazvida who later went solo and established themselves as renowned musicians.
Last year Zakaria received a donation of a Toyota GD6 from controversial Zimbabwe businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
