Harare – Zimbabwe police are looking for one of their officers, Prince Ndabambi to face murder charges after he assaulted Blessed Believe Juruvenge to death.
Ndabambi,39,was based at Ruwa police station where he tortured Juruvenge while coercing him to pay US$100 bribe.
Juruvenge,30, of Damafalls had been arrested by Ndabambi on assault allegations, a day before his death.
He was arrested for allegedly assaulting one Mwazha who had used a fake US$50 to buy groceries at Juruvenge’s tuckshop.
The incident happened end of last month.
Mwazha had allegedly offered to pay US$100 as compensation to Juruvenge but reported the tuckshop owner to police.
”Constable Ndabambi disappeared as his arrest was imminent. He is currently on the run,” the Zimbabwe Republic Police said in a statement.
”Efforts to arrest him are underway for the law to take it’s course without fear or favour.The Commissioner General of police, Stephen Mutamba has made it clear that the law is the law and that no one will sweep the disturbing case under the carpet.”
Zimbabwe police are notorious for using force in some cases where suspects are assaulted or beaten after they have been arrested.
Police officers move around with batons that they wantonly use to beat people they arrest or those that are resisting arrest.
