Harare – President Emmerson Mnangagwa has declared his birthday which is September 15 a national public holiday.
The holiday is named Munhumutapa Day. Munhumutapa was the name of a great King who ruled present day Zimbabwe centuries ago.
”His Excellency the President, in terms of section 2(2) of the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act [Chapter
10:21] hereby makes the following notice:—
1. This notice may be cited as the Public Holidays and Prohibition
of Business (Declaration of Public Holiday) Notice, 2026.
2. It is hereby declared that the 15th of September every year hence forth, shall be a public holiday to be known as Munhumutapa Day,” the government Gazette read.
Mnangagwa who turns 84 next week has often referred himself as Munhumutapa.
Zimbabwe’s late president Robert Mugabe also declared his birthday February 21 a public holiday.
