Harare – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa private visit to Zimbabwe where he had a meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the latter’s farm.
Ramaphosa met Mnangagwa who was accompanied by controversial businessman Wicknel Chivhayo who is being investigated by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of South Africa.
The Precabe farm shindig was celebrated within the factional ranks of the ZANU PF Mnangagwa faction.
Mnangagwa included Chivhayo, controversial businessmen Kuda Tagwirei and advisor Paul Tungwarara.
Chivayo’s young brother is on the wanted list in South Africa after he skipped the border when he is facing charges of illegally dealing with gold.
Sources have said Ramaphosa was on a trip to advice Mnangagwa to do a referendum rather than to make constitutional changes without following the law.
Other suggestions said Mozambican President Daniel Chapo had asked Ramaphosa to intervene in the pending political crisis in Zimbabwe.
But South African presidency said Ramaphosa was in a scheduled visit ” to discuss issues of mutual and bilateral interests.”
South Africa and Zimbabwe maintain a historical, political and dynamic trade relationship. In 2025, South African exports to Zimbabwe totaled about U$ 4.30 billion, with agricultural products and machinery dominating the majority of traded goods.
