Bulawayo – An elderly couple, Francisca Netsai Sibanda and Frank Sibanda, have been sentenced to three years in prison by the Tredgold magistrate court for stealing over US$34 000 from Stanbic Bank.
The theft took place following an erroneous deposit made into Francisca’s bank account following a failed POS transaction. The couple withdrew the cash and made purchases both in Zimbabwe and South Africa knowing they were not entitled to the money.
They were found guilty of theft. The court handed down a 7-year prison sentence, with a 4 years suspended. The remaining 3 years will also be suspended if they repay the full amount they stole by the 30th of June 2025.
