From day one I argued that the VP’s move was steeped in politics and a revenge move rather than in actually fighting corruption. Today I lay out one episode which led to the supposed move to get Chivayo arrested, painted as Chigananda.
The origin of this scandal was the alleged failure by Chivayo to fulfil one of many financial promises which he had made to the VP. Whatever else happened later was an effort to get back at him.
First of all the VP allegedly asked for 6 Rolls Royces for his wedding plus US$250K for his wedding preparations. During the wedding itself he received US$250K as a wedding gift. Of that amount only US$50K was announced publicly at the wedding per his request.
For the honeymoon, at the luxurious Four Seasons in Seychelles, the new couple got another US$250K from the same person. On their return, through South Africa the newly wedded VP’s partner allegedly got 1 million Rands for shopping.
The VP himself reportedly asked and got another 1 million Rands to get a gift for his wife.
After this they requested another US$450K from Chivayo which was meant to acquire 3 apartments for the VP’s children.
The children had to move out of his new house because he had gotten married. The apartments needed a total of US$450K.
This is where problems, which led to the recent move to get Chivayo arrested, began.
The couple received US$300K, leaving a balance of US$150K. However, the balance did not come as early as they expected while on his part Chivayo felt that the financial appetite and requests were too much.
Over 2 months they had received over a US$1 million and this created the tension which ultimately led to what has been sold as an anti-corruption campaign to arrest Zvigananda. While this centres on Chivayo more info on others is coming.
A failure to promptly fulfil a financial promise is what irretrievably broke the relationship and has resulted in the sly move coined as an anti-corruption effort, to arrest the former ally.
