‎Zimbabwe has 4.4 tonnes of gold reserves, government says

Harare – Zimbabwe has 4.48 tonnes gold reserves, the government announced on Monday.

‎President Emmerson Mnangagwa inspected the gold reserves at the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in central Harare.
‎
‎”The country’s gold reserves stand at 4,48 tonnes, making Zimbabwe the 11th country on the African continent with the largest reserves, ” George Charamba, Mnangagwa’s spokesman said on X.

‎”In SADC is in the third position after South Africa with 125,5 tonnes, and Mauritius with 12,4 tonnes.”

‎Zimbabwe is one of the countries in Africa that has large deposits of gold in many areas.
‎
‎However, some of the gold is smuggled out of the country which is attributed to corruption by high ranking officials.
‎
‎Zimbabwe is facing an economic crisis, high unemployment and political crisis following efforts to extend Mnangagwa’s term from 2028 to 2030 which is facing resistance.
