Harare – Zimbabwe police on Wednesday released the names of the 17 people who died in Chitungwiza in tragic road accident when a haulage truck was involved in a head on collision with a commuter omnibus.
The victims have been identified as:
- Tatenda Silia (25), kombi driver from Rockview West, Zengeza 5 Extension, Chitungwiza
- Wishby Nganima (19) from Nyatsime, Chitungwiza
- Letwin Hwingwiri (52) from St John’s Bhora, Murehwa
- Frederick Jumo (39) from Stoneridge, Harare
- Shantel Jere (3) from St Mary’s, Chitungwiza
- Rainford Jere (29) from St Mary’s, Chitungwiza
- Prodigas Mugere (37) from St Mary’s, Chitungwiza
- Tatenda Dhokwani (25) from Damafalls, Ruwa
- Samantha Taderera (27) from Zimre Park, Harare
- Sheilla Nemasango (58) from Nyatsime, Chitungwiza
- Samantha Nyangani (32) from Unit P, Seke, Chitungwiza
- Emma Matare (32) from Stoneridge, Harare
- Joshua Gutsa (7) from Stoneridge, Harare
- Perpetua Kurwa (35) from Stoneridge, Harare
- Anyway Maguduru (26) from Manyame Park, Chitungwiza
- Talent Hwingwiri (18) from St John’s Bhora, Murehwa
- Mary Nyambiri (63) from St Mary’s, Chitungwiza
President Emmerson Mnangagwa extended his condolences to the family of the victims and the government has declared the accident a national disaster.
”I extend my deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the Manyame Bridge accident. Seventeen lives were lost in a tragedy that could have been prevented. I’ve declared it a National Disaster,”Mnangagwa said.
”Government will cover funeral costs and medical care, and a nationwide crackdown on reckless driving is now underway. This senseless loss of life must end.”
