Harare – Zimbabweans are anticipating that government will shut down the internet on Monday, March 31, the day of mass protests.
War veteran Blessed Geza, called for mass protests against President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his government on March 31.
Geza (pictured) who is in hiding has called for Mnangagwa to step down accusing the veteran ruler of corruption, nepotism and running down the country.
The government has said Monday remains a normal working day.
Several Zimbabweans on the social media X platform wrote that they anticipate internet shutdown.
“Please give us an effective VPN in case they cut internet,” one said on X.
Another said: “Internet Services are off in some areas of Zimbabwe. If you don’t have a strong VPN, you are in the dark.”
“Info coming to my desk is that, weekend maybe worse as there maybe total closures of the internet.”
In an unrelated statement, Zimbabwe’s biggest mobile network provider, Econet said there will be a system upgrade on April 1 to April 2.
“Please note we have a system upgrade that may affect SMS & notification services on 01/04/25 @ 2300hrs to 02/04/25 @ 0600hrs. Any inconvenience caused is regretted,” Econet said in a statement.
