HARARE –THE editor of the Zimbabwe Independent Faith Zaba appeared in court Wednesday following her overnight detention Tuesday.
Her bail hearing has been scheduled for tomorrow.
Zaba faces charges of allegedly “undermining the authority” of President Emmerson Mnangagwa stemming from an article published under the paper’s weekly satirical column called Muckraker.
The piece in question is titled “When you become a mafia state” was published on June 27.
She has been charged under Section 33 (2)(a)(i) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
The State requested the hearing be set for July 3 citing the need to review medical documents related to Zaba’s health before proceeding with the bail application.
Her lawyer Chris Mhike told the court that Zaba had been on bed -rest under medical advice prior to surrendering herself to authorities.
“Prison is not a suitable place for someone who is unwell,” Mhike argued.
Zaba is expected to return to court tomorrow for the continuation of her bail proceedings.
