Nairobi,Kenya – At least 11 people were killed by police in clashes with protestors who were marking 35 years of pro-democracy rallies known as ‘Saba Saba.’
Protestors are calling for President Ruto’s resignation. They accuse Ruto of poor governance, poor economic management and police brutality.
On Monday police tried to block major roads leading into the capital Nairobi which angered protestors.
Police fired live ammunition, water canons and teargas against the protestors. In footage on the internet police officers can be seen violently beating up protestors.
Ruto has refused to resign despite protests that have been held in the past weeks.
Dozens of people were injured in the clashes with the police and at least 567 people were arrested, the police said.
Last month at least 19 people were killed by police when they were protesting against Ruto and his government.
