Johannesburg – The family of the late former Zambian president Edgar Lungu has obtained an order to prevent the Zambian government from taking the ex-leader body as the parties continue to fight in court.
The body of Edgar Lungu was removed from a mortuary by Zambia government agents as Lusaka wanted to start the processes of repatriating the body.
This was done without the knowledge of the family of the former leader.
However,Lungu’s family expeditiously obtained a court order to prevent the government of Zambia from taking the body.
The latest embarrasses the government of President Hakainde Hichilema which has been adamant that they want to bury Lungu despite the family of the late leader having clearly said the current leader must not precide over the burial processes of ex-president.
Lungu and Hichilema were political rivals.
Lungu died over nine months ago in South Africa and his burial has been delayed due to a standoff between the government of Zambia and the Lungi family.
