Harare – The Zimbabwe government has said the country’s airline, Air Zimbabwe will resume Harare- London flights end of July over a decade after flights were cancelled due to bankruptcy.
The airline has been struggling to keep flying in the past years while regional airlines such as South African Airways, Ethiopian Airways and Kenyan Airways have been ferrying Zimbabweans.
”The nation is advised that the Airline will resume operations by end of July 2026 and will utilise a leased Airbus A330-300 aircraft from Plus Ultra in Spain with combined 302 seats, having a configuration of 30 business class and 272 economy seats,”
”The airline will initially operate three weekly frequencies between Harare and London on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.”
Air Zimbabwe faced financial constraints during the Robert Mugabe era.
Mugabe would often commandeer that the airline fly him on his trips leaving passengers stranded.
The Harare-London route was the most profitable route for Air Zimbabwe in the 80s and 90s.
Air Zimbabwe which is owned by the government is hoping to tame on the large Zimbabwe diaspora community in the United Kingdom that largely work in the health care sector.
