Harare – A 52-year-old Chinese national Li Youbin was arrested at Robert Mugabe International airport in Zimbabwe after allegedly indecently assaulting a female passenger on Emirates EK713 from Dubai on November 21.
According to the prosecutors, Youbin was seated next to the female passenger who sat at the window seat.
”The accuse attempted to initiate conversation, and when the complainant declined, he proceeded to touch her thighs and buttocks, leading her to scream for help. She immediately alerted the flight attendants, who secured her safety until landing,” the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of Zimbabwe said in a statement.
Upon landing in Harare around 1700hrs, the matter was reported to police at the airport leading to Li Youbin’s arrest.
The NPA has opposed bail, arguing that the accused is a flight risk.
Li Youbin will appear in court from remand prison on December 1.
”Aircraft cabins are not law-free spaces” any offender – local or foreign – will face the full force of the law,” the NPA said.
