Chiredzi – A Chiredzi man, Nelton Tafadzwa Matanhuse has been arrested by police for allegedly insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa and controversial businessman Wicknel Chivayo.
Matanhuse,32, was arrested after a video went viral with him criticizing Mnangagwa’s rule after market stalls that housed vendors were destroyed by authorities in Chiredzi.
The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) is representing Matanhuse.
”In Chiredzi, 32 year-old Nelton Matanhuse, is spending his second night in detention awaiting the Chiredzi Magistrates Court’s decision on his bail application following his arrest on Tuesday for allegedly uttering comments to the effect that President Mnangagwa and one Chivhayo are inconsiderate to the suffering of the majority of people in Zimbabwe,” the rights lawyers said.
”The alleged utterances were deemed unpalatable by authorities. Matanhuse, who is represented by @Advo_Mureri of @ZLHRLawyers, returns to court on Thursday, where Magistrate Mutamba is expected to hand down a ruling on his bail application.”
Chivayo, who is close to Mnangagwa has been dishing out millions in cash and cars to hundreds of people in the past years.
His source of income is not known.
