Harare – Former Zimbabwe Foreign Affairs Minister, Walter Mzembi who is reflecting on his time in remand prison says jail time removes fake friends, relatives and comrades from one’s life.
Mzembi posted on X about his own experience in jail where he spent 400 days in remand prison.
”Jail prunes away fake relatives, comrades and friends and in the end it’s you and your God, we learnt the hard way but to every dark cloud there is a silver lining , and many lessons learnt,” Mzembi wrote on X.
”Jail time apart from making one tougher and resolved,deepens faith in extraordinary ways , it’s a time of deep reflection and one emerges with clarity and a vision unequaled, so all is not lost in the end.”
Mzembi posted the message on X when he was commenting on the release of opposition activist Godfrey Karembera who is known as Madzibaba VeShanduko.
Mzembi and Karembera shared the same cell in prison.
”Madzibaba Veshanduko not only became a prayer warrior & friend but was the lead figure on praise and worship . He also frequently testified on how God had been merciful in his political life which is a matter of public record but was often on the point of breaking down when he reminisced on how his opposition ranks and seniors had forgotten him , never visiting except for the visit by @Cde_Ostallos and @DMwonzora which he celebrated very much as a act of genuine comradeship,” Mzembi said.
