Harare – President Emmerson Mnangagwa will swear-in Zimbabwe new Sports Minister, Lt. General Anselem Sanyatwe at State House on Thursday, the government has said.
“Lt. Gen Sanyatwe (Rtd) will be sworn in as Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture, tomorrow (27/03/25) at State House at 0800hrs,” the government media department said.
Sanyatwe who was the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) commander was removed from his post and re-assigned by Mnangagwa on Tuesday.
Commentators have said Sanyatwe’s appointment as Sports Minister is a demotion.
Mnangagwa has not named his preferred new ZNA commander.
Social media was awash with rumours that Sanyatwe had refused to be retired from the army but the announcement that he will be sworn-in on Thursday has dismissed the social media reports.
