Harare – The bid by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son Collins to buy a road next to his property in Highlands suburb is being opposed viciously on social media.
Collins, a mining magnate is a twin brother to Major Sean Mnangagwa.
The twins, Collins and Sean have reportedly amassed massive wealth since their father Emmerson Mnangagwa took power in a military coup in 2017.
Collins built a three story house on Otto road in Highlands and wants to purchase part of the road for his personal use.
Otto road which connects Willowmead Lane to Collins avenue.
The Highlands Residents Association has already launched a petition against the closure of the road saying the street is a public asset.
Otto road according to the residents is used by the public who include pedestrians, school children, commuters, cyclists and domestic workers.
Hopewell Chin’ono, a journalist and critic of Mnangagwa’s presidency claimed the road has already been closed off.
”The President’s son has already grabbed a road, even though the corrupt and captured Harare City Council is pretending that some process is still ongoing.
If you go to that particular place, as many people have done, the road is already closed off,” Chin’ono said.
