Harare – A share dispute at Paza Buster Car Sales has spilled in court with two blood brothers and a sister fighting for control of the entity.
The Paza Buster Car Sales ownership is pitting brothers Paul Chenjerai, Andrew Chenjerai and their young sister, Emily Chenjerai.
Chronology of Events
Paza Buster Commodity Brokers (Pvt) Limited was formed between two brothers, Paul Chenjerai and Andrew Chenjerai in 1997.
They had equal shares, 50 percent shares each.
As the years went by, the company flourished into one of the prominent Car Sales entities in Zimbabwe.
However, things got out of control, the big brother, Paul Chenjerai took control of the company and pushed out his young brother, Andrew in unexplained circumstances.
Throughout the years, Paul Chenjerai maintained a firm grip of Paza Buster Commodity Brokers (Pvt) Limited.
Andrew got wind that his 50 percent stake was illegally taken by his brother Paul without his consent and agreement.
The older brother Paul, now holds 90 percent shares in Paza Buster and 10 percent were given to the brothers young sister Emily Chenjerai.
However, the young brother Andrew who own 50 percent of the shares at Paza Buster felt hard done and approached the police to have his 50 percent stake.
In February 2024, Andrew Chenjerai approached the Criminal Investigations Department, CID’s Commercial Crime Division (CCD) and reported his brother Paul on a fraud charge for unlawfully pushing him out of the company and illegally acquiring his 50 percent stake in Paza Buster Commodity Brokers (Pvt) Limited.
A police officer, detective Sergeant Arnold Anderson from the police’s CCD took the matter and prepared a fraud docket on Paul Chenjerai.
What followed were dramatic events that read like a fiction movie.
A CID homicide assistant Inspector, Isiah Chikanda arrested Andrew Chenjerai on charges of armed robbery claiming that a document he presented at CID’s Commercial Crime Division was stolen in an armed robbery that occured at Paza Buster Car Sales in December 2023.
Earlier, Chikanda had arrested Bhekimpilo Ncube and Mehluli Ncube of Bulawayo and Insuza charging them with robbing Paza Buster Car Sales.
Chikanda said the Andrew Chenjerai, Bhekimpilo Ncube and Mehluli Ncube acted in common purpose to rob Paza Buster Car sales.
Andrew Chenjerai, Bhekimpilo Ncube and Mehluli Ncube spent several months in remand prison battling to get bail.
In mid-March 2025, Harare Magistrate, Clever Tsikwa found Bhekimpilo and Mehluli Ncube not guilty of the robbery at the close of the State’s case.
But Clever Tsikwa dismissed an application for discharge by Andrew Chenjerai.
The court heard that Isiah Chikanda got a CR2 document from Arnold Anderson through WhatsApp breaching police protocols that dockets should not be shared outside formal channels.
The CID homicide and CCD are separate CID divisions. It is illegal for police to share dockets outside formal channels.
Chikanda in his testimony in court said he got the CR2 document from Anderson in May 2024 through WhatsApp.
But Anderson in his testimony said he gave Chikanda the CR2 document in July through formal channels. How Chikanda said he got the CR2 document, Anderson said he must explain.
One the officers lied in court or both lied.
Anderson did not tell the court why he did not prepare a docket of fraud on Paul Chenjerai after Andrew Chenjerai reported a case of fraud.
The freeing of Bhekimpilo Ncube and Mehluli Ncube shows the investigating officer, Isiah Chikanda arrested wrong people.
Andrew Chenjerai has denied robbery charges in his defence.
“I deny the charges being levelled against me because I cannot steal from my company which I reasonably believe I am a director. The charges are trumped up charges because I have a legal dispute with my brother (Paul) with regards to Paza Buster Commodity Brokers,” Andrew Chenjerai says in his defence.
According to the State’s case robbers armed with a firearm broke into Paza Buster car sales office and stole cash US$3500, Mercedes Benz S540 car keys, Mercedes Benz G Wagon car keys and Paza Buster registration documents.
At the centre of the Paza Buster robbery and share dispute is Isiah Chikanda.
The detective failed to link all the three accused persons to the robbery.
Isiah Chikanda, gave evidence saying a ‘nameless’ person informed him about the robbery that linked the accused persons to the robbery.
Chikanda who was described as a ‘mercenary’ by the defence was at pains to answer questions from the defence lawyers.
Chikanda agreed that nothing linked the three to the alleged robbery despite shockingly charging the accused persons with robbery charges.
He said nothing was recovered during the investigations.
The case does not have any exhibits. The mutton cloths and handcuffs used to allegedly tie guards at Paza Buster went missing.
Chikanda did not bother to investigate the alibis provided by all the accused persons.
He alleged the exhibits were stolen in the custody of an unnamed police officer when he was on his way from Mbare police station to Braeside police station. Chikanda said the unnamed officer has since retired from the force.
Detective Sergeant, Arnold Anderson has shelved the fraud docket on Paul Chenjerai. Paul Chenjerai is yet to be arrested or appear in court. Appears Paul Chenjerai is using his business muscle to evade arrest and get protection from being arrested.
There is a dispute on the money that was allegedly stolen, different testimonies in court gave different figures, others said it is US$2 600, some said US$ 3000 and another said US$3 500.
The safes at Paza Buster despite having allegedly damaged by robbers who used grinders are still in use at the company and they have not been presented as exhibits.
The Paza Buster Car Sales story is yet from over. Andrew Chenjerai spent six months in remand prison after Paul Chenjerai made a report of robbery against his young brother.
Paul Chenjerai remains untouchable, walks scot-free despite a police docket hovering over him.
The mother of the three siblings, Paul, Andrew and Emily, is alive to experience the ongoing squabbles and differences between her children.
Close sources to the Paza Buster Car Sales matter said efforts to resolve the share dispute by the mother of the three siblings, extended family members and a family priest has failed to date.
Unlike at other businesses where share disputes can be among friends, at Paza Buster Car Sales– it is a family affair.
