Gutu – Zimbabwe police on Tuesday arrested, The Masvingo Mirror publisher, Matthew Takaona for engaging in community work of cutting grass outside Mushayavanhu primary school in Gutu.
”Matthew Takaona has just been arrested outside Mushayavanhu Primary School where he and a group of parents were cutting grass on a stretch of tarred road that caused many accidents to School children and elders alike,” The Masvingo Mirror announced on X platform.
”He is now at Gutu Police Station. He was arrested by a group that called itself Ferret.”
The Ferret is a shadowy group that has been used by Zimbabwe authorities to arrest people in the past.
Takaona, a journalist by training is also a politician. He was a candidate in the parliamentary elections for Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) for Gutu Central.
Police are yet to give a statement on Takaona’s arrest and the charge he is facing.
Takaona publishes The Masvingo Mirror weekly newspaper in the city of Masvingo.
