Harare – Zimbabwe police have arrested seven company executives from India and 25 locals for manufacturing illicit alcohol.
Police said the seven Indians and 25 Zimbabweans were arrested at Arlington industrial park were they were manufacturing illicit brews using ethanol, flavouring agents, water and flavouring agents.
The alcohol was being sold to shops across the country and consumed by imbibers unknowingly that the beer is not registered in the country.
The seven executives were named as Praveen Kumarreddy,28, Manohar Reddy,39,Amanarath Reddy Gundra,34, Srikanth Reddy Jonnala, 39, Ramesh Yepuri, 37, Sekhar Reddy Kambam,34, and Yugandlar Reddy Samala, 34.
Twenty five Zimbabweans were fined for working without food handlers health certificate.
Zimbabwe is awash with illegal alcohol beverages which are manufactured without health authorities supervision.
Most illegal brews come from countries such as Mozambique and Zambia.
However, some small backyard brews are being made and sold to the public clandestinely.
