Harare – South Africa Police Services (SAPS) Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola is in Harare holding meetings with his counterpart Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba aiming to reduce cross border crimes.
General Masemola and Commissioner General Mutamba are accompanied by senior SAPS and ZRP officers in the meetings.
The two police commanders are holding meetings at Mkushi police academy in Harare.
Top on the agenda at the meeting will include tackling cross border crimes such smuggling of cigarettes, drugs, human trafficking, illegal cross border crossings and weapons.
Most armed robbers committed in Zimbabwe have been attributed to criminals coming from South Africa. The criminals once they commit the robberies return to South Africa through many illegal crossings.
Zimbabwe and South Africa have been cooperating in the past decades to arrest criminals who cross the Limpopo.
However, Zimbabwe police were tainted during the Robert Mugabe accused of extra-judicial killings after criminals arrested by SAPS were killed in unclear circumstances while on transit to face justice.
