Harare – A schoolboy was bitten by dogs and got injured on Monday morning when he was attacked on his way to school in Marlborough.
The three dogs, two Boerboels and a Rottweiler attacked the child when they ran out of the gate when the owner was driving out for work.
”This morning a Marlborough primary student was attacked by stray dogs as he went to school.I engaged SPCA so we round up all dogs we find roaming in the streets in Ward 41, which covers the listed suburbs. No life has to be lost again,” Kudzai Kadzombe, a former Harare City deputy Mayor said.
”As a community we have serious interest in the Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa’s ruling at 11 am for Mike Mupinga, whose pit bull fatally attacked his neighbour in Bluffhill. This ruling will set a precedence for other cases like this of negligent dog owners.”
Mike Mupinga is facing culpable homicide charge at the Harare magistrate court after his dogs killed Samuel Machara.
His bail ruling is expected on Tuesday.
Kadzombe said the dogs were picked up by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) on Monday evening.
In a another separate incident involving dogs that stray out of gated homes, a Harare man was badly attacked by pitbulls near Highglen roundabout on Friday June 13 when he was on his way from work.
”My husband was bitten by Pitbulls at the roundabout near Highglen, where there are water tanks. This happened last week Friday (13 June) as he was passing by on his way home from work,” an anonymous woman said.
”On Saturday, we passed through the same place on our way back from Harare Hospital to inform the people there that their dogs had attacked someone. We found some workers who said they would tell the owner, since he was not around. They called him, and he told us to phone again on Sunday (15 June) so we could meet. But up to now, he has not called us back.”
