Harare – A road traffic accident has killed seven people and injured several other people when a Toyota Hiace collided at the intersection of Bulawayo and Dzivarasekwa early Wednesday morning.
The police said the Toyota Hiace driver did not give way to the UD truck at the robot controlled intersection.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident involving three vehicles, a Toyota Hiace kombi, haulage truck and UD 70 truck which occurred early this morning on Wednesday at the intersection of Bulawayo Road and Dzivarasekwa turn-off near Thuli Service Station,” the police said in a statement.
“Seven people were killed while eight others were injured. It is alleged that the kombi driver failed to give way at the traffic lights controlled junction resulting in the accident. More details will be released in due course.”
Kombi drivers have been accused of driving reckless in Zimbabwe over the years resulting many accidents blamed on human error.
Some of the public transport drivers are not licensed while others drive under the influence of alcohol.
