The Tendai Mazuru Foundation for Persons with Disabilities and Their Families has applauded the Destiny of Africa Network (DANET) and young entrepreneur Top Striker for complementing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s efforts to empower people with disabilities, following the construction of houses for disabled beneficiaries in the eastern border city of Mutare.
Tendai Mazuru, director of the foundation, was among five persons with disabilities who recently received vehicles and wheelchairs from President Mnangagwa at State House. The handover ceremony saw beneficiaries from various sectors receive Mahindra vehicles to enhance their independence and increase their capacity to assist others with disabilities.
Among the beneficiaries were musician Chipo Muchengwa, gospel artist Greatman “Born” Tongai Gwaze, entrepreneur Hazel Mandaza, and Bulawayo-based beautician Michelle Madawu, who is also a Zimbabwe Youth Council board member.
Mazuru, whose foundation is dedicated to supporting persons with disabilities and their families, praised DANET’s Manicaland Chapter—led by chairman Wilson Masokowere—for building him a five-roomed house. He also acknowledged young entrepreneur Libert “Top Striker” Gumende, treasurer of Boyz DzaMdrara Manicaland, for providing building materials.
Gumende, popularly known as “Top Striker,” runs a chain of hardware stores in Mutare and has been at the forefront of philanthropic work in the province.
“Firstly, I want to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa for giving me a vehicle and wheelchairs that will help with the day-to-day running of the Tendai Mazuru Foundation. I also want to thank our Youth Minister, Tino Machakaire, for facilitating our visit to see the President at State House,” Mazuru said.
“There are people I should mention who have complemented President Mnangagwa’s efforts in empowering the disabled. We have Destiny of Africa Network Manicaland chairperson Wilson Masokowere, who built me a five-roomed house, and Libert ‘Top Striker’ Gumende, who provided the building materials. I am happy because I am no longer paying rent, and they have done so much for people with disabilities,” he added.
