Harare, June 04, 2026: The United States Embassy in Harare marked the 250th
anniversary of American independence with a reception held on Thursday, June 4.
The event, modeled after an American county fair, brought together senior Zimbabwean government officials, members of the diplomatic community, business leaders, civil society representatives, academics, and alumni of U.S. exchange programs.
The Guest of Honor, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Hon. Dr. Anxious Masuka, joined U.S. Ambassador Pamela M. Tremont in celebrating this historic milestone.
In her remarks, Ambassador Tremont reflected on America’s founding ideals and their enduring elevance.
“In 1776, our founders gathered in Philadelphia. They were mostly farmers,
merchants, and everyday people who believed in something bigger than themselves,” she said.
“They believed in an idea – that ordinary people could govern themselves, that freedom and opportunity should belong to everyone.”
The Ambassador also highlighted the strength of U.S.-Zimbabwe people-to-people ties and the
importance of expanding economic engagement.
“Both our countries value innovation and entrepreneurship,” she said.
“We want to see American companies investing here. We want to
see Zimbabwean companies accessing American markets and global supply chains. We want both our peoples to benefit from stronger economic ties.”
The event formed part a year-long global commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary through events around the world.
Ambassador Tremont said the county fair theme reflects both American tradition and values familiar to Zimbabweans.
”A tradition for over 200 years, they’re where community values shine – hard work,neighborliness, self-reliance, and community spirit,” she said.
“These are the values I see every
day in Zimbabwe. I think the term ubuntu describes the county fair vibe perfectly.”
Minister Masuka commended the continued engagement between the two countries and called for deeper collaboration to attract investment, expand bilateral cooperation, and support shared prosperity.
The event was made possible through the generous contributions of U.S. companies and brands perating in Zimbabwe, demonstrating the growing commercial ties between the United States and Zimbabwe.
