Harare – The US government on Thursday stopped Zimbabweans from applying visas except those travelling on government or diplomatic business.
Washington instructed their Harare embassy stop issuing visas past evening.
The move will have consequences to Zimbabweans intending to travel to the US.
Only those with valid visas can travel to the US.
The US government did not stop other nationals who are in Zimbabwe to apply for visas.
Recently President Donald Trump’s government imposed a refundable visa bond fee of up to US$15,000 for Malawians and Zambians.
This was imposed due to Zambians and Malawi nationals who overstayed in the US.
American data shows that 10.57% of Zimbabweans with B‑1/B‑2 visas (tourist/business) overstayed their stay in 2023. Malawi’s overstay rate was 14.3%, and Zambia’s was 10.5%.
