Masvingo, Zimbabwe – Thugs which are linked to ZANU PF on Friday violently disrupted the book launch by Job Sikhala, prominent politician.
Sikhala was at Charles Austin theatre in Masvingo on Friday evening launching his book, Footprints in the chains – the life story of Job Sikhala, when ZANU PF thugs invaded the venue and violently disrupted the meeting.
”Drunken well-known ZANU PF goons in Masvingo came and violently disrupted our book launch at the Charles Austin Theatre at the Civic Centre. They started attacking the Guest of Honour Mathew Takaona when he was delivering his speech,” Sikhala said on X.
”One of the Speakers Dr. Takavafira Zhou was pounded by the addressing pulpit by one of the drunken thugs. The pathetic violence by the beast is continuing. We condemn in totality all forms of violence and the disruption of our book launch!!!”
The thugs destroyed tables, chairs and threw away Sikhala’s books he intended to sell at the event.
Sikhala is a renowned politician in Zimbabwe. He spent more than a year in jail after he was jailed for representing murdered opposition activist Moreblessing Ali who was killed by a ZANU PF activist.
In his recently published memoir Sikhala writes about his trials and tribulations as activist and politician.
The ruling ZANU PF has been accused of using thugs to disrupt events by its opponents. Press conferences and gatherings such as meetings have been disrupted in the past with people beaten up in front of cameras to frustrate ZANU PF political opponents.
