Harare – The Managing Director of the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), Abel Gurupira, has been removed from his position with immediate effect following yesterday’s embarrassing power outage in Parliament while President Emmerson Mnangagwa was delivering his State of the Nation Address.
The incident, which plunged the chamber into darkness mid-speech, has sparked outrage and ridicule across the country, symbolizing the deepening decay of Zimbabwe’s power infrastructure under Mnangagwa’s administration.
The parliament and government was embarrassed when there was a power cut during Mnangagwa’s address plunging the parliament into darkness.
Mnangagwa continued with his speech with his aide using a torch.
Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda suspected culprits deliberately switched off the power to embarrass Mnangagwa.
He said the government will thoroughly investigate the incident and bring culprits to book.
”We shall go beyond what happened and trace the culprits and deal with them accordingly. And those that will be found wanting will regret the day of their existence,” Mudenda said in parliament on Tuesday.
