Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe – The house of Zimbabwe opposition leader Job Sikhala was bombed by dynamites last night in Chitungwiza, no-one was hurt but the home was destroyed.
”I have just seen the level of destruction done at my house through a video by my children. It’s devastating. But why this cowardice whoever did it. They used a bomb and this bomb can not be accessed by ordinary people. This kind of evil is not acceptable in the 21st century!!!,” Sikhala wrote on his X platform.
Sikhala was not at home when the house was bombed but his children were at the house.
He said the bomb attack happened early Saturday morning, around 1 AM. The house was extensively damaged and cars parked outside the house were torched.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) are investigating the case.
”My children are advising me that members of ZRP homicide are present at my house as I speak. They are said to be waiting for the members of military bomb disposal team to remove the dynamites that were used to attack my house,” Sikhala said.
”Myself as you all know I am in South Africa for the book launch scheduled to take place in the afternoon and my wife had gone to our village for the memorial service of my my uncle’s late wife. Only our children Job Jnr, Ramaloka, Melody, Joshua and Fidel are at home. This is cowardice and whoever did it will pay a dear price. Every normal Zimbabwean must condemn this act of terrorism against my family. My children must cooperate with those who are doing their job to go to the bottom of this terrorist attack.”
Sikhala is launching his book- Footprints in the Chains: The Life Story of Job Sikhala at the African Centre for Governance at the Old Johannesburg Stock Exchange Building today.
