Harare – A lawyer for Kelsea Tafirenyika on Monday told the court that the vast properties she is alleged to have bought from drug dealing were gifts given to her by her husband Collins Mnangagwa.
Tafirenyika’s lawyer, Admire Rubaya made the claim in court that Collins Mnangagwa is the source of the funds that acquired properties.
Tafirenyika is facing charges of dealing in drugs and buying properties in affluent suburbs worth millions.
She was also accused of buying cars such as Lamborghinis.
Tafirenyika is applying bail but the prosecution wants her to be tried in custody claiming investigations are on-going to establish other properties she acquired in the past three years.
Collins Mnangagwa, son to Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa is in Dubai were he is undergoing rehabilitation for drug abuse.
Collins Mnangagwa’s mother-in-law, Amina Jassinta Jessub Arab, mother to Kelsea was allegedly abducted at Coke Corner in Harare and beaten by unknown assailants.
Amina Jassinta Jessub Arab was later arrested with her two daughters in Bulawayo last week.
The case about almost US$10 million which was used in property buying spree has shocked Zimbabwe with citizens demanding to know the source of the income.
