Harare – Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has been awarded US$100 000 in damages in a case that she sued journalist Edmund Kudzayi for defamation after the scribe wrote stories that she had an affair with businessman Tinashe Murapata.
Kudzayi published stories on his Kukurigo online platform alleging that Mahere, a former Member of Parliament had an affair with Marapata that led to the collapse of the businessman’s marriage.
A default judgment was given by High Court judge Joel Mambara after Kudzayi failed to oppose the lawsuit.
Mahere is a former Citizens for Coalition for Change (CCC) MP.
Kudzayi is a former Sunday Mail editor.
Murapata, a renowned economist did not sue Kudzayi.
