Harare – Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa has fired Mines Minister Winston Chitando with immediate effect.
Chitando, a former executive in the mining industry has been a government minister in the eight years since Mnangagwa took power in a military coup in 2017.
Apart from serving as Mines Minister on two separate times, Chitando also served as Local government minister.
Mnangagwa did not give reasons for firing Chitando who led the mines ministry which is marred with serious corruption, minerals smuggling and dodgy deals.
Polite Kambamura who has been Chitando’s deputy is now the new Mines Minister.
