Botswana – Zimbabwe police have said a third suspect in the US$4 million Ecobank robbery has been arrested in Botswana.
Bhekani Mlilo,39, was arrested this week as he was crossing from South Africa to Botswana.
His arrest comes after the arrest of two suspects Abraham Temayi Vumbunu and Elijah Temayi Vumbunu in South Africa.
The three suspects allegedly robbed cash in transit outside Ecobank in Bulawayo on 3 October, 2024 when they removed trunks of money from a security company vehicle into their get away car with minimum resistance in broad daylight.
”The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of another suspect, Bhekani Mlilo (39) in connection with the armed robbery case,” the police said.
”The suspect was arrested on 14th July 2025 in the Republic of Botswana as he was attempting to enter the country from South Africa.”
”The due processes of the law are now taking effect for the suspect’s extradition to Zimbabwe,” the police added.
The police said they are still pursuing the arrest of the other suspects who are linked to the robbery that left Zimbabwe dumbfounded.
