US- Renowned and longtime US civil rights activist Reverend Jessie Jackson has died.
He was 84.
Jackson, was a pioneer US civil rights activist and one of the leaders of the US civil rights movement in the 1960s.
He died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday morning — surrounded by family and friends.
Millions across the world have been sending condolences messages to Jackson who who fought for civil rights for black communities in the US from the 1960s to the current Black Lives Matter wave.
Rev Jackson contested in US presidential elections twice.
Prominent people including former presidents described Jackson as a giant.
”Michelle and I were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of a true giant, the Reverend Jesse Jackson. We will always be grateful for Jesse’s lifetime of service, and the friendship our families share. We stood on his shoulders. We send our deepest condolences to the Jackson family and everyone in Chicago and beyond who knew and loved him,” Barak Obama, the former US president wrote on X.
