Harare – Zimbabwe government on Wednesday signed an agreement with Prevail Group of Companies to allocate and construct allocation 50 000 houses for war veterans across the country’s 10 provinces.
The signing ceremony was done by Minister of War Veterans Affairs,Monica Mavhunga with her counterpart Daniel Garwe, Minister of Local Government and Public Works together with Prevail Group, Chief Executive Officer, Dr Paul Tungwarara who is also a special advisor to the President .
”Section 23 of the constitution provides for the looking of liberation heroes issues, 20% of the development in various economic spheres is set aside for war veterans be into mining , agriculture, tourism to mention just a few,” Garwe said.
”We honour the constitution provision by signing Memorandum Of Understanding (MOA) in respect for war veterans for the construction to completion of developments for stands throughout 10 provinces. This is not a new development as we did the same to the youth sector in September 2024 and after this initiative for war veterans, we are going to allocate stands for women affairs.”
”Our constitution provision accord , honor, respect and empower war veterans economically. The second republic honoured war veterans by appointing the ministry responsible for war veterans affairs unlike the past years when war veterans affairs department was under other ministries,” said Mavhunga.
Mavhunga also clarified that war veterans comprises of non-combatant like Chimbwidos (war collaborators).
Mavhunga said the first phase will benefit 50 000 war veterans and the vetting of beneficiaries has already been done.
“We are promising transparency in allocating stands for our liberation fighters , we are not going to be found on the side of those who are corrupt,” Mavhunga said.
Prevail Group of Companies is going to the construction of war veterans houses . “As Prevail group of companies, we are happy to be part of this initiative and we are ready to hit the ground so that war veterans benefit from the housing,” said Dr Tungwarara Prevail group of companies Chief Executive Officer.
