Harare – The release of Zimbabwe journalist Blessed Mhlanga from remand prison has been delayed, with prison officials saying the High court order which granted the scribe bail was not signed.
Mhlanga was granted US$500 bail on Tuesday at 3 P.M by Justice Gibson Mandaza after languishing in remand prison for two months.
In a suspicious case, authorities have said the order granting Mhlanga bail is missing at the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).
Mhlanga who was arrested in February was charged with transmitting messages to incite violence.
A senior Zimbabwe journalist, Mhlanga works for the Trevor Ncube owned Alpha Media Holdings and Heart & Soul TV.
Authorities charged him with transmitting messages deemed to incite public violence.
The charges stem from his coverage of press briefings by ex- ZANU PF central committee member and war veteran, Blessed Geza, who publicly called for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s resignation.
Rights groups and ordinary people in Zimbabwe have said Mhlanga is innocent and that the police in arresting Mhlanga are criminalizing journalism.
